We ended up going for the "You're past your due date" monitoring tonight instead of next week. I'm not really sure why it ended up happening tonight, but hey.
When we got there and got signed in and everything, they wrapped a couple belt things around me that tracked Sea Monkey's heart rate. The readings from it showed that 1- Sea Monkey's great. 2- I'm having some very light contractions. 3- Sea Monkey is handling those light contractions really well. All good news.
After a while of being hooked up to that, the doctor Val referred us to brought in the ultrasound machine and checked to see how much fluid I had. She checked other things, too; she looked at Sea Monkey's head, which is apparently very low in my pelvis. Sea Monkey currently has a hand up by his/her face. We got to see a profile shot of Sea Monkey's face, so we know s/he has a nose. And what a cute little nose it was!
The machine she was using wasn't very detailed and it either didn't have the option to print pictures or she didn't know how to do it- I don't know which. It was kind of amazing, though, to actually see that there's a baby in this massive belly of mine instead of just looking down at the blob and trying to picture there being a baby there.
Sea Monkey is still quite stubborn and was moving while the doctor was trying to look at things. She was trying to see if Sea Monkey is practicing breathing or not, but the little maniac kept moving so she could never really tell. But she did say that all the activity was great.
But the results of the monitoring show that Sea Monkey is doing just fine. I have plenty of amniotic fluid, the placenta is looking great, Sea Monkey's heart rate is fine. So health-wise, s/he is fine to hang out for at least another week. I sincerely hope s/he doesn't.
So that's our news. Sea Monkey is healthy and active, and we couldn't ask for better results.
Now if s/he would just come out already.
