Appointment update!

No bad news, but nothing super exciting, either.

So we got there and sat down on the couch to go over the results from my pap smear and blood work. Pap smear was all clear, no sign of cancer anything. Woohoo!! I always get so nervous when I go in for stuff; I'm so freaked out they're going to find something wrong with me. I was shaking the first time I went for a pap smear... but anyway. It was all clear!

Blood work showed that I'm "very well nourished" (yay!) and I tested negative on syphilis (haha!) and hepatitis. And I tested negative for antibodies, which means when I miscarried, there was no baby blood to be mixed with mine. Chances are we lost that little baby just about as soon as we found out and told everyone. But anyway, I don't have to worry about having O- blood for now. Yay! My body is not trying to fight off the baby! Good work, self.

And the heartbeat stuff... so Val took us to one of the rooms (their practice is set up in a house), asked if we were allergic to cats because Kim (it's her house, her cat; she's one of the midwives in the group)'s cat was hanging out in the room. I laughed, said no, plopped down on the bed next to the cat and started petting it while Val probed around with the doppler. I think it actually helped calm/distract me, having the cat there. I have my pants rubber-banded (they're not too tight; it's usually just secure enough that it makes me uncomfortable in the morning, so the rubber band gives me a little extra breathing room) and the cat kept trying to eat the rubber band and made me laugh.

Anyway, Val tried for a while to catch Sea Monkey, but couldn't quite get it. She kept thinking she was hearing him/her, but Sea Monkey apparently enjoys his/her exercise too much and didn't want to stay still. We have a wiggler. Val said she thought she was hearing fetal movement, so that's a good sign. She brought Kim in after a bit and she tried, and was thinking the same thing as Val- kept catching glimpses of the heartbeat and hearing movement, but could never quite catch it. So we don't have a definite, sure-fire heartbeat, but Val's not worried at all, which makes me not worried at all, either. Val has a very calming attitude; I always feel so reassured after talking with her. =) (oh, and by the way, I know "glimpse" is a term for sight, but I couldn't think of a word that describes the little bit of sound we were hearing...)

Sorry grandparents, you'll have to wait a bit longer before you can freely announce the pregnancy. =)

And another little tidbit- Pregnancy number 2 has officially passed pregnancy number 1 in length! Today I'm 11 weeks, 4 days. First pregnancy ended at 11 weeks, 2 days. I still have symptoms, so for now, things look like they're going well. =)

My next appointment is March 2nd... which should be 2 weeks from today. We're so getting our money's worth with the midwives! This appointment was just an extra to go over test results and to try and hear the heartbeat; normally I'd only have had the appointment in early February and the next appointment, but they set me up with an extra. =) I'm so happy with our midwives; they're very obviously focused on the safety of mother and baby and less concerned with the money aspect of it, which is awesome. =)
